Aracuhuroo and Tiny Thieves

Description

Well, here it is, my very first actual picture of one of these folks- in this case, as Aracuhuroo rather than Golden Gnoll, since there is quite a bit of humor here.

Like the Golem-Lin/Reptiloids and Golem-Mice/Ar-Kenjanians pictures, this one also features the silly rivalry between relatively tiny creatures and the "giantesses" they pester.

In this case, it involves the Aracuhuroo and tiny "Homonculi," which, like the Golem-Mice are intelligent artificial beings, but are not animated by some outside spirit- they are creations entirely of that world, and they developed their memories and learnings on that world, much like a sentient robot on our world might.

It was therefore inevitable that each would end up being different from the other, since no two would have the same set of experiences. Because of their peculiar natures, these experiences would affect their physical abilities as well.

Still, they all do have some things in common: one (you likely guessed this!) is an irresistable attraction to bright, shiny things, the prettier the better. You may also have guessed what that means for the story.

The other is a shyness towards those much bigger creatures around them. This is because they might be captured, since one cannot just have such creatures just running around. Besides, they might not get a chance to collect those delightfully shiny items.

And so...

Over the past few weeks the girls of that part of the school noticed a number of things had gone missing: always small items, and often singly- for example, just one earring might be missing. Locking doors did nothing to prevent this, and even subtle alarm spells that would alert one if a door or window was forced or spelled open never went off.

Even spells to prevent teleportation, or at least warn or indicate it, accomplished nothing.

One day Jenny Aracuhuroo, her class on sonic magic (e.g. breaking a glass with sound) having ended early, decided to go back to her room to catch up on some reading, when, as she rounded a corner, thought she heard some tiny sounds, as if of chitter-chatter, or the faintest whispers- and then noticed a ring in the middle of the hall.

She picked it up, and saw that it was Meleena's. How had it gotten there? Meleena would not have dropped it!

Just then, she heard the faintest of sounds, and to her left saw something most unusual...

From under Tina's door (with some difficulty) a tiny, somewhat Aracuhuroo-looking creature came, backwards, and the reason why became obvious: it was tugging at a small azurite and diamond bracelet. Oblivious to the towering girl standing right behind it, the little would-be thief was pulling its ill-gotten prize out after it when there seemed to be more of those sounds, frantic-sounding?

It turned, and saw the huge girl standing right there!

CAUGHT IN THE ACT!

In that second Jenny realized what had been happening: it was this creature- a Homonculous- that had been responsible for the thefts. Its tiny size made locked doors useless, and it explained why no alarm-spells or even more mundane alarms had worked: no door had been opened, and no teleportation spells had been used.

It was the perfect thief, at least for anything small enough for it to carry or drag, and fit under a door.

It trembled as it looked up at her as she put her paws on her hips and said "well, well- so YOU are what's been stealing things around here!"

Did she hear more of those tiny sounds around her?

"Oh- please, don't hurt me," the little creature pleaded, "please don't, w- I meant no harm, I just like the pretty things!"

It occurred to the Aracuhuroo girl how things must look from the little violet creature's perspective: one of the huge giantesses it'd been stealing from had caught it in the act. It was too big to just dash back under the door, and she had it cornered.

She looked at the tiny thing, and felt sorry for it. Yes, it was a thief, but that was the nature of Homonculi, and anyone who had created it would have known that. Was it stealing for someone, or had it escaped from a careless magician?

It certainly hadn't done anything to deserve being harmed; after all, although she did not like the idea of it sneaking under her door and into her room, it certainly was harmless enough.

"Oh, please don't be scared, I'm not going to hurt you- not for stealing trinkets! Really, don't be scared of me, now."

"You- you're not going to step on me, or turn me into a statue?"

"Of course not, little one- but you must put that bracelet back where you found it."

"I will, oh, thank you thank you," it said, shoving the jeweled circle back under the door and squeezing under after it.

Jenny herself gave a soft sigh of relief- it was lucky that she had startled it, and it had been frightened of her. She'd heard that Homonculi, due to the way their magic life-force worked, actually could move very fast, and its fear was maybe unfounded; even if she had tried to step on it, it might have been too quick for her as long as it had not tried to squeeze back under the door.

Still, such a thing would hardly have even occurred to the soft-tempered girl. She'd also heard of how Homonculi could do harm- their small size allowing them to sneak in to places otherwise secure, a poison needle could make them somewhat dangerous (note: these are Aracuhuroo, not Golden Gnolls). But, clearly, this was a harmless one.

"Thank you for not harming Purple," came a tiny voice from behind her.

Jenny turned, and there saw a red Homonculous, smaller than then one she'd just sent back with its pilfered prize, standing behind her near the other door, while a little blue one peeked out from under.

"But if you were lying and mean to hurt him, well, just try it with me first. You'll never stomp me, oh no; I'm too quick for one of you!"

"Yes, of course YOU are," said another voice, from another direction- and there, slipping under the hall door, was a green one, still clutching an earring.

"But what about Purple? Maybe if he wasn't so scared he might be fast enough, but you're the fastest one among us and he's the biggest and slowest" the emerald-colored one continued.

"Oh, dear," thought the Aracuhuroo girl, "how many are there?"

"It's all right, she's too nice to try to step on us," came a familiar voice, and there came Purple, squeezing out from under the door, minus the bracelet.

"I put it back right on the night table," he said.

"Thank you," said Jenny, kneeling down and carefully scratching the purple creature behind his ears.

At that moment, Red, Purple, Blue, Green, and Yellow gathered in front of her...

Eventually they lived in her room, unknown to anyone else, but their love of shiny things and mischief (except for Pink) caused some trouble- Red especially liked teasing Tina, who tried to catch or stomp him, but it was no idle boast; he was too quick for her.

Each had an attribute:

Red: Fastest, the leader, the most mischievous.

Yellow: Can climb almost anything.

Green: Most perceptive, can sense desired items.

Purple: Biggest, and the strongest. Won't betray his friends, but is nervous or easily scared otherwise.

Blue: Can "lend" one Homonculous' ability to another, as long as he is in contact with the one he is sharing the ability from- so Purple would be as fast as Red, for example. Can only do this for a moment, and only if close by.

Pink: The only female, and the least troublesome. This is the one Jenny can most rely on to stay out of trouble. She can sense where any of the others are if near; she often senses Red in Tina's room, although the girl's hollering, or the sounds of sneezing or frantic stomping coming from that direction, makes Pink's ability to sense Red unnecessary at times...
